What is a Risk Assessment?

A risk assessment from Vector Consulting is much more than a site survey telling you to buy more cameras and hire security guards. Our risk assessment comprises a multi-faceted analysis of your organization and your property.

Site Logistics: We assess your visitor management policies and procedures. The way your organization deals with non-employees (whether they be visitors, clients, or partners) is often the first line of defense in site security. We also assess traffic and pedestrian flows, avenues of approach, and points of ingress and egress to identify anomalies and places for improvement.

Current Emergency Plans & Training: We look at your current emergency plans. This is often a place where you can make free or inexpensive improvements in security. We also look at the frequency and type of emergency training your provide for your people.

Employees and Employee Management: We interview a range of employees to get an understanding of security both in theory and on the ground. A discrepancy between the perception of security and the facts on the ground is often telling of an organization’s culture of security.

Perimeter: We assess your site’s fence line and gates. Even if your site has a street-facing gate and security guard shack, an unchecked perimeter may be a source of risk if you have holes in fences or gaps in coverage.

Alarms: We assess your organization’s system of alarms. This include door alarms, burglar alarms, and mass notification. In other words, we look at how effective your organization is at alerting people to an emergency or alerting security personnel to anomalies.

Access Control: We assess your site’s electronic access control system as well as your organization’s use of brass keys.

Lighting: We conduct a thorough nighttime light reading of all building exteriors on your property. Nighttime lighting conditions are important for keeping your people safe during dark hours, particularly if employees walk to their cars after the sun has set.

Local Crime: We provide a detailed report about local crime statistics. Crime markers including crimes against property (e.g., robbery, car theft) and crimes against persons (e.g., rape, aggravated assault) in a one-mile, three-mile, and six-mile radius around your site can give important information about site-specific crime concerns.
